GOVERNORS COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

Multiple District “A” Council of Governors met on November 16th in Richmond Hill. “Busy” was the “buzz” word for the leadership of Ontario and Quebec Lions in Multiple District “A”. There were training sessions, a cheque presentation to the winners of the Lake Joseph Centre 50/50 draw, committee meetings, the Council meeting and networking by all who attended.

The weekend began with a group dinner on Friday night and shortly thereafter, District Governors visited the MDA office with Council Harry Marissen and Secretary John Proulx. Your Vice-District Governors and their spouses/partners met with PID Lion Treasurer Gil Constantini for a training workshop on Leadership, Membership, Research & Long Range Planning and the election and role of the Council Chair. PDG Cathy Bock of A-2, PDG Dave Durant of A-12, PDG Tim Blackburn of A-15 and PID Gil Constantini of A-3 facilitated the workshop. Our ten Vice District Governors ended the session with questions and discussion. As stated by PID Lion Gil Constantini, “This year’s VDGs are keen and enthusiastic Lions. Their outlook is positive and their leadership ability will move our Lions organization forward on many fronts.“

At the business session, many committees reported the progress of their activities to Council. Two cheques for $10,167 were presented; one to the Unionville Lions Club who was the winning club and one to the Lake Joseph Centre for the benefit of our annual raffle. The Richvale Lioness Club won the weekend for four at the Lake Joseph Holiday Centre. PDG Lion Dan Moore, the Chair of the Sight Conservation committee urges all Lions and Lionesses to purchase their tickets for next year’s draw.

As part of Council’s goals for this year, our Governors are instructing external organizations who request access to MDA’s club mailing list to a Fundraising Application process. This measure will diminish the number of donation requests sent to all our clubs in the Multiple. The International Advisory Committee Chair Bill Moody in his report to Council reminds Lions that the deadline for requesting Presidents Certificate of Appreciation is fast approaching. Clubs are urged to contact their District Governor for more information.

Our Council Chair, Harry Marissen, on behalf of your Council of Governors, wishes all Lions and their families a joyous Christmas and much happiness in the coming New Year. As all Lions helping the less fortunate in our communities, let us live up to our motto WE SERVE.
