MDA COUNCIL BUSINESS SUMMARY

Here are some highlights of our September 6 2003 Council of Governors meeting which took place in MacTier ON.

MDA FORUM
Council cancelled the format of MDA Forum as a separate entity and will include a similar program with the MDA convention starting in 2005 with the possibility of a pilot in 2004.

ALTERNATIVE FUNDING MODEL FOR MDA PROGRAMS
Council considered various models and has filed this issue without any further action

OFFICE TRANSITION
The changeover is almost complete. The office in Richmond Hill has been closed since August 29th. All services that were previously in place have remained. USE OF PUBLICLY RAISED FUNDS
There have been many interpretations over time. The Governors decided to bring clarity on this issue through every available media in the Multiple.

MAGAZINE COMMITTEE
Council accepted a recommendation that the Magazine committee re-design its presentation format.

FUNDRAISING PERMISSION GRANTED

• MDA Program Peace Poster Contest
• MDA Program Sight First Lake Joseph Centre 50-50 Draw
• MDA Program Effective Speaking Contest
• MDA Program Friendship Arches Draw
• Drs Lions Club Request for Monster Draw
• The Canadian Diabetes Association,
• Camp Huronda

FUNDRAISING PERMISSION DENIED AND REFERRED TO SUB-DISTRICTS

SIGHT FIRST
Lake Joseph Holiday Centre The building fund contributions from Lions Clubs have reached $523,577 with a total to date of $947, 634. Lake Jo/50.50 Winner declared to be the Chatham Lions Club. The Rockwood Lions Club won the free weekend at Lake Jo
Diabetes: it was announced that the Lions will switch their support to the Residential Canvass for Diabetes with the demise of “Case for a Cure”.

MDA CONVENTION
Council was advised that the voting would begin at 7:00am on the Sunday of the Convention. There are 4 International Director candidates running for the International Director position of 2005-2007. They are PDG Lion Terry Graham, PDG Lion Mary Jane Gagnier, PDG Lion Yvette Gerber and PDG Lion Carl Young. The St Davids Lions Club submitted a convention bid for the 2006 MDA convention in the year 2006 which was approved by Council. The event will take place in Niagara Falls.

WINDSOR/DETROIT LCI CONVENTION
Mark your calendars The convention will take place on July 5/9 2004. No Lions event has been planned for Windsor yet although a logo has been selected.

DID YOU KNOW
There are 38 Leo Clubs in MDA, an increase over last year.
