Past International Director Ernie Moore passed away peacefully with his family by his side, in hospital, Perth, Ontario, on Sunday, May 21, 2017. Ernie Moore, in his 88th year, was the beloved and cherished husband of Julie (nee Malloy) of Perth and a wonderful and loving father to Nancy (Ken) Chapman of Brampton, Linda (Brett) Martin of Red Deer, Alberta and Ernie (Mary Jane) of Newmarket.
He will be sadly missed by his 4 grandchildren, Kelsey, Holly, Mathew and Devon. Ernie was predeceased by his parents, the late William and Alice Moore (nee Hall) and by his sister Ilene (late Ted) Argue.
Ernie was employed with the Ontario government for over 34 years and retired in April, 1989. H.H. “Ernie” Moore served a two year term as a Director of the International Association of Lions Clubs after his election at the Association’s 68th annual Convention held in Dallas, Texas, June, 1985. A Lion since 1953, Past Director Moore held the office of Charter Club President, District Governor, Council Chairman and Treasurer of the Lions Foundation of Canada. He served as an appointee to the International Board of Directors in 1987-88.
In recognition of his contributions to the Association, Past Director Moore received a 100% District Governor Award, six International President Awards, three Extension Awards and six International President’s Certificate of Appreciation Awards. He was a Life Member of Lions Clubs International, a two time recipient of the Key Member Award and recipient of the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honour granted to a member by the Association. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow.
Perth Lions Club will gather on Saturday, May 27th at the O’Dacre Family Funeral Home, 15 Victoria Street, Perth, for a service which will take place in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. with a Liturgy of the Word Service to follow. A reception will be held at the Perth Lions Club Hall located on the corner of Halton & Arthur Streets, immediately after the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lions Foundation of Canada or the Great Wall Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
